Open Museum

Preserving, presenting, and celebrating the art of our time. A permanent collection and a museum home in Miami, now in development.

Now placing exhibitions in hospitals, senior centers and community spaces

Open Museum is the first museum dedicated to artists with disabilities working in supportive studios. Born in Miami, Open Museum is building a permanent home here, a place where these artists receive the sustained exhibition, public access, and institutional recognition long reserved for their peers. From that home, its exhibitions also travel into hospitals, care settings, and public institutions.

A permanent home in Miami

Open Museum is building a permanent home in Miami: about 4,000 square feet of galleries, a working studio and a tropical courtyard. The concept is a converted warehouse in the spirit of Allapattah, whitewashed brick under a sawtooth roof, opened up by a perforated concrete screen and a glass corner. The museum is now in development.

Already in hospitals, care settings and public spaces

While we build our home, Open Museum brings the collection to people where they are, through exhibitions on loan and museum nodes.

Partners
Hospitals, senior centers and other care and community organizations, formalized through a Museum Partner Agreement.
Approach
Formal exhibition loans. Open Universe keeps ownership, so collections stay intact whatever a partner's budget cycle.
Purpose
Bring art to people where they are, and give artists institutional presence.

Become a museum node: the Open Universe Wall

Concept: an Open Universe Wall in a hospital lobby.

Host a museum node and your space becomes part of the museum: rotating, museum-quality work on your walls, with Open Universe visibility and press.

The artist earns 10% of every payment for as long as the work hangs. The rest runs the gallery, the fairs and the museum. Over time, we aim to direct support back to partner studios through stipends.

Nodes can be anywhere: hospitals, hotels, public lobbies. Offices and private spaces lease through The Living Collection.
